Key take aways | Retail Tech Tour London

From 26 to 27 February, we embarked on a Retail Tech Tour through London with a group of 14 enthusiastic retailers, all with one clear goal: to return brimming with inspiration and innovative ideas. And did we succeed? Absolutely!

With more than 40 cutting-edge retail concepts discovered and countless miles walked, we look back on an incredibly rewarding two-day event. We’re delighted to share some key takeaways.

1. Technology is powerful, but integration is key

Too much technology can be overwhelming, but when seamlessly woven into a concept, it undoubtedly enhances the experience! One shop that stood out in this regard was Charlotte Tilbury. The window display was a beautifully cohesive blend of physical elements, lighting, colours, and materials. The screen itself no longer felt like a separate feature but instead enriched the overall experience.

2. Transparent LED is on the rise

At the Nike store in Battersea Station, we saw transparent LED used to perfection!  The LED wall created a striking and dynamic visual, proving that transparent LED is a fresh and modern alternative to traditional displays. The view into the store remained unobstructed, while the brand identity received an incredible boost. We’re big fans!

3. Storytelling is King

The most impressive retail concepts were those where storytelling took centre stage; not necessarily the ones with the most advanced or extravagant technology ;-). We saw several retailers embracing storytelling, including Arc'teryx, where a large ‘Experience Wall’ behind the checkout showcased engaging videos of skiers instead of promotional content. This approach was perfectly aligned with the brand and its target audience. The phrase ‘content is king’ couldn’t be more fitting!
